Charter Schools Should be Embraced by Conservatives

I find it interesting that a number of people seem to equate Charter Schools with lefty liberal movements. I am not sure why this is. I can think of at least three reasons why Charter Schools should be embraced by true conservatives.

1. Charter Schools are a key component of the School Choice movement, which has long been a key position of true conservatives.

2. Charter Schools are actually an example of "small government". They do away with an entire layer of administration, and are measurably more efficient because of it. To put it bluntly. They save money

3. They are almost always non-union. In fact one of the forces that drives teachers and parents to take a chance on a new charter school is the stifling of creativity and innovation which is the inevitable outcome of a large bureaucracy working closely with large union.

Quite frankly the list could go on an on. Charter Schools are all about reform. They fit quite well within a true conservatives view of how government should function.

In the spirit of transparency, I need to disclose that my wife is Lori Peters. She is the lead petitioner for Bridges Charter School and I am so proud of her.

She and the rest of the "Bridgies" simply got tired of waiting for government to come to the rescue and decided to do what is their right by law. They stood up and said "You know what? This isn't good enough. We can do better"

We need a lot more activism like this in our communities!
